Why use a wooden shoe spoon?
Uulki’s small shoe horns are made in Europe from beech wood. The wood is only harvested in sustainably managed European forests. By manufacturing in Europe from European wood, we can keep our (transport) ecological foot print low. The shoe horn’s wood has a warm colour since it was oiled.
Choosing a short or long shoe spoon – or both?
What to choose: a large, long shoe horn, or a short, small one? A big shoe horn definitively offers the most comfort, but unfortunately you can’t take it everywhere you go. So a long shoe spoon is perfect for use at home. Sometimes, however, you need a shoe horn outside your home, for example when visiting the sports club, your docter or physiotherapist, or on holiday. In these situations, it’s good to have a short shoe horn with you. Our small shoe spoon fit well in your handbag, travel bag, glove compartment of your car, or side pocket of your jacket. Many of our customers therefore choose to buy both a small and a long shoe horn.
Maintaining the wood
It’s not necessary to maintain the wood of your shoe horns, but it keeps it beautiful and protected against abrasions, stains or other damage. So if they horn becomes dry and dull after some time, you can reoil it with our natural, vegan, non-toxic Uulki wood oil. If you prefer a wax, or a combination of oil & wax, ou can also choose Uulki furniture wax or Uulki wood cream. These too are natural and plant-based and thus free from beeswax or other animal derived ingriedients.
Do I need to clean my small shoe spoons?
Normally not, since it takes a lot to make a shoe horn dirty. But if necessary, you can wipe the wood with a damp cloth.
